Are there any chemicals, coatings, or additives on YADA wooden products?

YADA wooden and bamboo products are 100% pure wood — no coatings, no chemicals, no additives that compromise food safety.

What is NOT in YADA products:

  • No plastic coatings: Unlike paper plates, our wood is naturally water-resistant
  • No BPA / phthalates / formaldehyde: Independent lab tests confirm zero presence
  • No PFAS ("forever chemicals"): Critical for EU and US health regulations
  • No heavy metals: Lead, cadmium, mercury all below detection limits (FDA 21 CFR standards)
  • No pesticides or herbicides: Our FSC forests use integrated pest management, not chemical control

What IS in YADA products: Pure birch wood or pure bamboo, nothing else. The natural lignin in the wood provides structural strength and water resistance.

Optional food-safe finish (only on request):

  • Some cutlery lines offer an optional food-grade beeswax coating (EU-approved, FDA 21 CFR 184.1973) for extra water resistance
  • This is 100% natural, edible, and adds zero toxic chemicals
  • Default products ship uncoated — specify if you want beeswax finish

Food safety certifications (verify anytime):

  • FDA (US Food & Drug Administration) — food contact safe
  • LFGB (German food safety, stricter than EU) — passed
  • EU 1935/2004 — food contact materials compliant
  • SGS migration testing — no harmful substance transfer to food
